Crypto ETF Outflows Top $1 Billion in October as Spot Bitcoin and Ether Funds Slide

Crypto ETF outflows have piled past $1 billion for October 2026, with US spot Bitcoin and Ether funds handing back more than $1 billion in combined net redemptions so far this month. It is a sharp reversal from the early-October mood, when Bitcoin products were still notching a third straight week of inflows – markets rarely send a change-of-heart memo, they just start cashing out.

As of Monday, Bitcoin was trading near $83,000 after a 3.4% drop over the past seven days, while Ether held around $2,530, down roughly 6.5% on the week, according to Forbes’ latest snapshot of the top ten digital assets.

Why Crypto ETF Outflows Are Accelerating

Three pressures are doing most of the heavy lifting:

  • Historic US Treasury yields. When Washington pays more with less risk, non-yielding assets have to fight harder for every dollar.
  • AI-bubble nerves. Equity tech wobbles spill into crypto beta fast; the same trade that amplifies gains in risk-on times amplifies retreats.
  • Middle East escalation. Geopolitical headlines keep portfolios in risk-off mode ahead of a heavy macro week.

The weekly pace confirms it: across all crypto ETFs – including Solana, Zcash and Hyperliquid products – outflows reached $1.29 billion in the latest week, on top of the October-to-date $1 billion-plus bleed from the two flagship funds tracked by CoinDesk and Forbes.

What $120 Billion Still in Funds Tells Us

Here is the counterweight: these funds still hold north of $120 billion in combined assets. Investors are trimming exposure, not heading for the exits – the portfolio equivalent of turning the music down rather than leaving the party. Redemptions at this scale read as risk management, not capitulation, and someone is still at the wheel.

CPI Week Keeps Everyone Honest

The flows land squarely in US CPI week, with inflation data due Wednesday. A hot print keeps yields elevated and the pressure on Bitcoin and Ether; a cooler one gives risk assets room to breathe. Either way, a week of crypto ETF outflows has bought the market a useful reset – and $120 billion of sidelined capital is a lot of dry powder waiting for exactly that reason to come back.
