Blur NFT Marketplace to Shut Down as Trading Volume Collapses 99.5%

The Blur NFT marketplace is shutting down. The platform that dethroned OpenSea and turned NFT trading into a points-farming arms race will close on November 12, 2026, after monthly volume collapsed more than 99.5% from its peak – the marketplace won the war, then watched the prize evaporate.

Blur disclosed the closure Tuesday. Monthly trading volume has fallen from a peak of roughly $1.43 billion in March 2023 to under $7 million by March 2026 – a decline so complete that today’s remaining flow would barely register as a busy hour on the platform’s own 2023 charts. The BLUR token dropped more than 20% on the announcement.

From $1.43 Billion Peak to Under $7 Million a Month

Blur arrived in 2023 promising a trader-first alternative: zero fees on select orders, bid-and-ask farming rewards, and an aggressive grab for market share against OpenSea. It worked – briefly. Wash-trading criticisms and reward-driven behavior inflated the numbers, and when the incentive programs wound down, the organic demand underneath was never there. The multi-year NFT contraction did the rest.

Blur NFT Marketplace Exit Follows the Blast Collapse

The shutdown comes ten days after Blast – the Ethereum L2 launched by Blur founder Tieshun Roquerre – went offline on October 2. Two closures in one empire, three years after both were pitched as the future of on-chain consumer apps, closes a clean chapter on the 2023-2024 builder cycle.

For the wider market the headstone is unsurprising. NFT liquidity did not migrate to a new exchange; it moved toward tokenized equities and real-world asset rails, while retail attention rotated to memecoins and perps. Blur did not lose to a better marketplace – it outlived the category it was built to dominate.
