Spot Crypto ETF Outflows Hit All Four Major Funds in One October 16 Session

Spot crypto ETF outflows swept every major fund category on October 16, with Bitcoin, Ether, XRP and Solana products all finishing the US session red. Per SoSoValue data as reported by CoinGabbar, the four combined for roughly $167.21 million of withdrawals – a fully red board that lands just as the market tried to stabilize around Bitcoin’s climb back toward $82,000.

It is the kind of session that makes the month’s flow story read less like noise and more like a habit.

The numbers behind the spot crypto ETF outflows

  • Bitcoin spot ETFs: -$82.39 million on the day.
  • Ethereum spot ETFs: -$69.68 million – the 11th outflow day of October.
  • Solana spot ETFs: -$12.67 million, also an 11th outflow day this month.
  • XRP spot ETFs: -$2.47 million, the 3rd outflow day of October.

ETH and SOL matching each other at 11 red sessions apiece is the quiet detail: this is not a one-fund story. October has been a sequential withdrawal for the derivative-wrapped complex even as spot Bitcoin traded firmer into the weekend.

A streak, not a blip

The single session plugs into a month that was already heavy. As of our October 12 count, crypto ETF outflows had topped $1 billion for October across the complex – documented in our earlier flow tracker. Five days later, the four-asset red session extends that arc rather than breaking it.

Some context worth keeping honest: Bitcoin itself traded near $82,087 (+1.92%) and Ether near $2,445 (+4.15%) in the October 17 snapshot on CryptoPanic – meaning price and flows are telling slightly different stories. Redemption pressure hitting funds does not automatically equal coins leaving cold storage; ETF intermediaries absorb and redeploy that inventory on their own schedule.

What would flip the flow

Three things historically reset the tape: a clear macro catalyst (the September CPI and PPI prints of the past two weeks both cut the wrong way), a sustained stretch of green daily closes that forces desk rebalancing, and issuer-level fee or wrapper changes that pull subscriptions forward. None arrived on October 16.

Sourcing caveat, stated plainly: the four figures ride on a single SoSoValue-derived daily summary; independent cross-checks against Farside Investors or issuer creation-redemption data were not available inside this reporting cycle. We will update the numbers if the primary trackers diverge.

For now the verdict is simple: the spot crypto ETF outflows have a pulse, and on October 16 it was steady across all four limbs.
