US wallets took 88.1% of all geolocated AI model inference payments on the x402 protocol over the reporting window in Chainalysis’s latest agentic commerce report – the clearest number yet on where agent-to-model money actually flows. The figure landed in "North America: Inside the Growth of Agentic Commerce," published October 22 as part of the firm’s 2026 North America Crypto Adoption report.
x402 is the stablecoin micropayment rail that lets AI agents pay for resources inside ordinary web requests, settling on Base. Chainalysis counted more than 138 million x402 payments during its reporting period.
Where agent money actually goes
The 88.1% share applies specifically to AI model inference payments that Chainalysis could geolocate – not to every x402 transaction. Across all geolocated agent-to-service payments, the US share was closer to 30%. The category breakdown shows where American wallets concentrate:
- 88.1% of geolocated AI model inference payments;
- 41.8% of payments to agent frameworks and tool catalogs;
- 23.2% of payments to data and search APIs.
In other words, when agents buy compute brains, US-domiciled wallets dominate; when they buy plumbing and data, the world shows up in force.
Caveats worth keeping
The main data window is the 12 months ending July 1, 2026, with some figures extended through September – October is the publication date, not a transaction month. Wallet geography is estimated from on-chain signals, so "US wallet" does not always mean a US resident. And these are payments, not settlements of consequence: inference pennies moving 138 million times is a proof of habit before it is a market.
Why it matters
Agent commerce has been forecast into oblivion for two years. This is one of the first attempts to count it by category rather than by vibes, and the early map reads American for the most expensive byte in the stack – the model call itself. For builders and tokenized-payment watchers alike, the takeaway is simple: the AI model inference payments layer is already real money, already stablecoin-denominated, and already concentrated where the models are.
