BitMine Ethereum accumulation is close enough to smell the finish line: the Tom Lee-chaired treasury company has piled up roughly 5,983,940 ETH – about 4.9% of the 122.1 million supply – and says it will stop buying the moment it hits its self-imposed 5% cap.
The company is roughly 100,000 ETH shy of the ceiling, reached in about 15 months, far ahead of the schedule it originally laid out. About 5,067,309 of those coins are already staked, and combined holdings of crypto, cash and marketable securities sit near $15-17 billion. The firm calls the campaign the “Alchemy of 5%” – a name that sounds like a crypto podcast and a balance sheet at the same time.
After the BitMine Ethereum Cap: Monetization, Not More Stacking
Lee has been explicit about what comes next: at 5%, the buying stops and BitMine shifts into a monetization and staking phase. He told investors to “stay tuned” on any new long-term ownership target, which in investor-ese usually means the slides aren’t built yet.
The price talk got louder alongside the supply talk. Lee reiterated a cycle target of $25,000-$50,000 per ETH, calling the asset “massively undervalued,” while trimming his near-term year-end mark to around $5,000. For context, ETH trades near the $2,500 area in early October – so the cycle target is either conviction or a very elaborate wish, likely both. Lee also chairs BitMine, so his telescope has an obvious financial interest pointed through it.
Why the 5% ETH Threshold Matters
A corporate treasury that quietly absorbs nearly a twentieth of all Ether changes the float math for everyone else – especially once the accumulation bid disappears and the staking yield becomes the main event. If the Alchemy of 5% playbook works, expect every ETH treasury company to copy it; if it doesn’t, expect them to rediscover the word “diversification” very quickly.
