Bitcoin Rebounds After Midterms: BTC Clears $80,000 as the Blue Wave Uncertainty Resolves

The Bitcoin rebound after midterms is the market’s verdict on a Democratic sweep that, on paper, was supposed to be bad news for crypto: in the early hours of November 4, BTC printed a six-week low around $75,600, then reversed hard – recovering above $78,000 by the morning update and pushing through $80,000 later in the session, roughly +3.5% in 24 hours. Traders read the V-shape less as an endorsement of the result and more as relief that the uncertainty finally has an answer.

From six-week low to $80,000 in a single session

The sequence was textbook. Democrats took both chambers in what outlets called a ‘Blue Wave’ sweep, Bitcoin initially dropped on the news, and then – with the outcome settled and US stock futures stabilizing (Dow +2.5%) – the bid came back. Oversold momentum indicators, heavy call-option buying and a bounce in Nasdaq futures did the rest.

Ethereum outperformed, up about 7% to roughly $2,434 after briefly dipping to a two-month low near $2,178 overnight. The CoinDesk DeFi Select Index rose ~5%, with INJ up 6.2%, while Trump-linked assets did what the evening implied: TRUMP fell 7.1% and World Liberty Financial dropped 5%.

Why the sweep didn’t break the market

‘Bitcoin dropped initially in response to the Democratic sweep, but has since recovered as a clear outcome resolves political uncertainty,’ said Dick Lo, founder of TDX Strategies. Nicolas Quatravaux of Paradigm noted Polymarket had priced a Democratic win above 75% for a while: ‘overnight was less about the outcome and more about the uncertainty going away.’

Markus Thielen of 10x Research sees the sell-off leaving Bitcoin oversold with $82,000 as the next target. James Butterfill at CoinShares makes a similar point – the sweep was largely priced in, leaving room for a relief rally. Bitwise Europe’s Andre Dragosch offers the contrarian read: for Bitcoin, ‘real yields, dollar liquidity and ETP flows still carry more weight than the elections.’

Options traders bet big into the dip

Election day printed roughly $660 million of BTC options blocks – more than double the prior day – with about $420 million in calls bought against $105 million sold, including ~$230 million of calls bought near the low. The flow was aggressive enough that TDX’s Thielen expects a retest of the $82,000 area.

What still isn’t moving: ETF flows and the $80,000-$82,000 test

Two cautions keep the rally honest. First, US spot ETF redemptions are still running – roughly $1.16 billion of Bitcoin ETF outflows across the last three sessions – and the constructive test is holding above $78,000 while that continues, per Giottus CEO Vikram Subburaj. Second, resistance sits at $80,000-$82,000; Bitget Wallet’s analysts argue a durable recovery needs a reclaim of that zone with supportive spot demand.

Policy-wise the mood is mixed: with Democrats controlling both chambers, analysts like BitOK’s Dmitry Machikhin expect the CLARITY Act to stay in limbo well into 2027, while divided government cuts against major market-unfriendly shifts. Macro – deficits, the Fed, dollar liquidity – remains the swing factor, the same as before the votes were counted.
