CME Group booked a record Q3 revenue of $1.74 billion as its crypto derivatives suite averaged roughly 196,000 contracts a day, the exchange operator said in its third-quarter earnings release on Wednesday.
What Drove CME Group’s Record Q3 Revenue
Total revenue of $1.737 billion across 64 trading days rose 13% from $1.538 billion in the year-ago quarter and edged up 1.8% from Q2 — the highest third-quarter revenue in the company’s history. Average daily volume hit a record 29.4 million contracts, up 16% year over year, with double-digit growth across all six asset classes.
Crypto sat at the center of that momentum. The firm’s Q3 2026 cryptocurrency report put the crypto suite at 195,800 contracts per day, describing the tape as showing “resilient momentum” through the quarter. CME launched and expanded 24/7 cryptocurrency trading products during 2026 and cited round-the-clock access as a growth driver on the earnings call. Newer listings added depth: the XRP suite averaged 12,200 contracts a day, with smaller but growing Sui, Stellar and Cardano suites.
International expansion reinforced the print. International ADV of 9 million contracts a day climbed 22%, with EMEA up 20% to 6.5 million and APAC up 28% to 2.1 million. Nine-month revenue reached $5.32 billion versus $4.87 billion in the prior year.
The results land alongside heavy institutional flows elsewhere — spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $528 million this week — and as exchanges race to serve demand for crypto exposure through regulated derivatives rather than spot alone. CME did not break crypto revenue out as a separate line item in its earnings table.
