Tokenization keeps searching for its fastest-growing neighborhood, and this year it found one: the Solana RWA market cap has grown from roughly $700 million to $4.3 billion in twelve months, according to a Castle Labs research report published this week.
That is about a 6x expansion – roughly 514-600% depending on the starting snapshot – and the figure excludes stablecoins, covering tokenized U.S. Treasuries, equities and private credit rather than the usual USDC and USDT passenger count.
From 4.5% to 26% of Ethereum’s RWA market
The competitive reading is the sharper number. Solana’s non-stablecoin RWA base now equals roughly 26% of Ethereum’s $16.6 billion tokenized asset market, up from about 4.5% a year earlier. In other words, Ethereum still owns the mansion, but Solana has stopped sleeping in the guesthouse.
What is actually on the chain
The $4.3 billion spans three asset classes: tokenized U.S. Treasuries, tokenized equities and private credit. Independent readings roughly agree on the scale – a Solana Foundation overview in late July cited about $3.7 billion in non-stablecoin RWA, while a Forward Industries SEC filing on October 1 using RWA.xyz data placed the figure at $4.3 billion as of September 30. Methodological differences explain the remaining gaps: snapshot dates and inclusion criteria move the dial.
The flywheel thesis
Castle Labs frames the growth as a “full-stack on-chain economy” in which consumer-grade applications feed a tokenization flywheel – trading and payments activity attracts issuers, which deepen liquidity, which attracts more users. Whether that flywheel survives its next stress test is the open question every L1 pitches and few have proven.
Why it matters
RWA has become the sector’s favorite “real yield” narrative, and chain-level market share is where the narrative meets the scoreboard. Solana’s jump from bit player to a quarter of Ethereum’s RWA base in one year gives issuers a genuine second address to consider – and gives Ethereum a race it spent four years not having.
