Coinbase has introduced a new toolset for developers called “CDP Embedded Wallets” to make building Web3 applications easier and more secure. These wallets allow developers to integrate self-custodial wallets into their apps quickly, with familiar login options like email and SMS that mimic the Web2 experience.
A key feature of these wallets is the automatic 4.1% reward on idle USDC balances, which can be passed on to the end-user. The wallets are compatible with both EVM-based chains and Solana and maintain user control by protecting keys within trusted execution environments (TEEs).
This new offering is designed for a variety of use cases, including DeFi platforms, B2B payroll, and crypto games. The launch comes at a time of increased regulatory clarity in the US, with the recently passed GENIUS Act providing a federal framework for stablecoins. To encourage adoption, Coinbase is waiving all fees for Onramp customers using the product during its beta phase.
