Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has donated a significant sum of Ethereum (ETH) to Alexey Pertsev, a developer of the cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash.

​In a significant legal victory for the cryptocurrency industry, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit has ruled that the U.S. Treasury Department's sanctions against the crypto mixer Tornado Cash were unlawful.

In a recent statement on August 9 via the X platform, Xu, a key spokesperson for OKX, underscored the exchange's firm stance on compliance with global sanctions regulations. The announcement highlighted OKX's rigorous approach to handling deposits and withdrawals involving sanctioned entities, such as Garantex and Tornado Cash.

By July 19, 2024, the privacy-focused cryptocurrency mixing protocol Tornado Cash has reportedly facilitated over $1.8 billion in transactions in the first half of 2024 alone.

Vitalik Buterin, one of the creators of Ethereum, contributed 30 ETH, equivalent to roughly $113,000, towards aiding the legal defense of Tornado Cash developers Alexey Pertsev and Roman Storm. This donation was facilitated through the decentralized fundraising platform Juicebox.

According to blockchain data, a hacker who stole $125 million from Poloniex's hot wallets in November has transferred 1,100 ether (ETH) to the sanctioned coin mixer Tornado Cash.
