Jason Lau, OKX’s Chief Innovation Officer, shared that GameSphere has received positive feedback from developers, who appreciate the platform’s support with Web3 mechanics, user experience, liquidity, and distribution. The absence of Web3 features on Steam, according to Lau, restricts game developers from exploring innovative business models and building deeply engaged communities.
Steam’s ban on blockchain-based games, enacted in October 2021, has led to a surge in Web3 gaming on alternative platforms. GameSphere has already onboarded a range of Web3 games, from football simulators to MMORPGs. The platform is set to continue expanding, integrating games that utilize Web3 mechanics and The Open Network (TON).
The broader Web3 gaming landscape is still evolving. Despite notable successes, Lau acknowledges that the industry has not yet fully leveraged Web3 elements. For Web3 gaming to truly flourish, ongoing experimentation with unique game mechanics and robust community-building efforts are essential.
