Aptos, a layer-1 blockchain platform created by former Facebook employees, recently set a new benchmark in blockchain transactions. On May 25, Aptos recorded an impressive 115.4 million transactions in a single day, significantly outpacing Solana’s 31.7 million, as reported by Aptoscan.
This surge in transaction volume not only broke previous records but also exceeded the L1 record of over 65 million transactions held by Sui Network by a remarkable margin of more than 50%.
The substantial increase in transactional activity on Aptos highlights the platform’s growing adoption and the overall momentum within the industry. Data from Aptoscan indicates that the blockchain’s user TPS (transactions per second) hit an all-time high of 32,000 on the same day, demonstrating the platform’s scalability and robustness.
This spike in activity on Aptos is largely due to the launch of Tapos Cat, a popular tap-to-earn game. On its first day on the mainnet, Tapos Cat processed an astonishing 10 million transactions, significantly contributing to the overall increase on the platform.
Tapos Cat allows users to earn $HEART tokens by ‘tickling’ a virtual cat, encouraging repeated transactions within the game. Additionally, the game offers a gas-fee-free experience for the first 72 hours, incentivizing player engagement without additional costs.
Experts in Cryptocurrency Question Tapos Cat’s Long-Term Survival
Tapos Cat’s long-term viability and usefulness have been questioned by some, including the CEO of Helius Labs.
They contend that the game’s focus on click-and-buy engagements can fudge analytics in an attempt to make it appear as though it is meeting user needs.
On the other hand, Aptos supporters maintain that Tapos Cat is an important engineering project that demonstrates the robustness and scalability of the Aptos network and lays the groundwork for future advancements.
The Aptos Labs team also announced the appointment of David Lawee, a former Google vice president of corporate development, to their board of worldwide advisers.
Furthermore, Aptos Labs and Atomrigs Lab have announced intentions to introduce T wallet, a Web3 wallet service, in association with SK Telecom (SKT), a South Korean telecommunications company.
Among the Fastest Blockchains is Solana
With a daily processing capacity of an astounding 91 million transactions, Solana has established itself as the quickest large-scale blockchain.
During the memecoin frenzy on April 6, Solana set a record-breaking daily average of 1,504 transactions per second (TPS).
With the greatest TPS among Ethereum scaling solutions, Polygon, is over 5 times slower than Polygon, and the blockchain is now an astounding 46 times quicker than Ethereum.
Though Solana holds the title of fastest blockchain, it has only reached 1.6% of its projected maximum speed of 65,000 TPS.
Notably, in terms of actual processing performance, layer 2 and scaling solutions for Ethereum have not yet surpassed those of other layer 1 blockchains.
The reason for this could be because Ethereum scaling solutions have fewer on-chain transactions, which causes the realized TPS for these blockchains to be slower.
