Tokenized RWA Retail Access Stuck at 3% as 97% of Value Stays Off-Limits, Report Says

Bottom line up front: Tokenization has pulled roughly $60 billion of real-world assets on-chain, but tokenized RWA retail access remains a narrow door: only about 3% of that value – roughly $1.7 billion – is available to US retail investors, according to the first edition of BeInCrypto Research’s "The Real State of Tokenization in 2026." The rest sits behind institutional walls, and a big chunk of what is on-chain barely moves at all.

The Tokenized RWA Retail Access Gap

The report’s headline finding is a contradiction at the heart of the RWA boom: the market has moved firmly into institutional finance, but usable access for ordinary US investors is still narrow and uneven. Ninety-seven percent of tokenized asset value is off-limits to US retail; the accessible 3% flows almost entirely through structures compliant with the 1940 Investment Company Act. On the supply side there is no shortage – the bottleneck is compliance: broker-dealers face redundant KYC and accreditation checks on every platform and issuer, fragmenting what should be a single market.

Treasuries Remain the Only Production-Grade Class

Consistent with our own October reality check, the report finds tokenized US Treasuries are the only asset class at production-grade maturity: about $15 billion across roughly 100 assets, with 99% of the category’s value distributed on public blockchain rails and 16 products clearing $100 million. Commodities come next at around $8.3 billion, led by tokenized gold. The flagship funds – Circle’s USYC, Ondo’s USDY, Franklin Templeton’s tokenized treasury products and WisdomTree’s WTGXX – anchor the category. BeInCrypto’s $60 billion total spans 12 asset classes and 7,000-plus products using RWA.xyz data; live RWA.xyz dashboards show a narrower ~$39 billion distributed figure excluding stablecoins, a methodology difference worth flagging rather than smoothing over.

Concentration and Dormancy

The market is also top-heavy and quiet. Eighty-eight percent of total value sits in just 62 assets. And across a measured subset of 1,289 assets worth more than $100,000 each, 56% – about $32.9 billion – recorded zero on-chain transfers in a week. Tokenized does not automatically mean liquid.

Why It Matters for the RWA Push

The findings land amid heavy institutional momentum: Franklin Templeton added $150 million in fund shares to the XRP Ledger this week, and DTCC tokenized DTC-held securities hit production in July. But retail distribution remains the sector’s weakest leg – the same gap our earlier RWA coverage flagged. Whether the next wave of issuance cracks the 3% door will say more about tokenization’s trajectory than another headline total. Figures are point-in-time against continuously moving RWA.xyz data.
