Deutsche Bank Crypto Custody Launch Is Weeks Away, Report Says

Deutsche Bank crypto custody is reportedly weeks away from going live, positioning Germany’s largest bank to join the institutional digital-asset race that has already pulled in Wall Street incumbents from New York to Dubai.

Reporting described this week as “weeks away” builds on the bank’s own September 16 announcement, which targeted a full launch by the end of 2026. The service is being built with Swiss digital-asset specialist Taurus and will initially serve institutional and corporate clients in Germany and Europe, with support planned for Bitcoin, Ether, USDC, EURC and EURAU at launch.

What Deutsche Bank has lined up

The September announcement framed the product as part of a broader digital-asset strategy rather than a standalone bet – custody first, with tokenization and other services expected to follow the regulatory runway. An Asia expansion is targeted for 2027, and no US rollout has been announced, keeping the bank clear of the muddier – though rapidly clarifying – American licensing landscape for now.

Timing matters in this race. Every quarter a global systemically important bank spends on compliance checklists is a quarter its asset-manager clients keep parking tokenized positions elsewhere. The “weeks away” status, if it holds, puts Deutsche Bank in the first mover group among European universal banks – a club where being second looks a lot like being last.

Banks are piling into custody for a simple reason

Custody is where institutional crypto flows concentrate, and the incumbents have noticed. Standard Chartered launched RLUSD institutional custody from its DIFC Dubai branch this month, with Ripple and LMAX collateral mirroring planned. Fireblocks opened its own NYDFS-regulated trust last year. The pattern is consistent: attach a bank-grade balance sheet to on-chain assets, and the RWA boom gains the plumbing it has been missing.

That plumbing is carrying real weight now. Tokenized markets have drawn roughly $39 billion on-chain excluding stablecoins by some industry estimates this month, with Solana’s RWA market cap alone jumping from $700 million to $4.3 billion in a year and XRPL RWA volume hitting $7.03 billion over 30 days. None of that scales without custodians institutions already trust with everything else.

What is not in the plan

Three boundaries worth stating plainly. Retail clients are not in the launch cohort – this is an institutional product from day one. The United States is not in the launch geography at all. And every date here remains subject to Deutsche Bank’s own caveat that the service ships only after applicable regulatory timelines complete – the same fine print that separates every bank crypto announcement from a working product.

For now, the signal is clear enough: one of Europe’s largest banks has moved from studying digital assets to standing up the least glamorous, most essential piece of the stack. When the risk managers start competing on custody SLAs, the institutional era has officially stopped being theoretical.
