Crypto ETP Race Heats Up: Solana Surges to Match Bitcoin Filings

The world of crypto Exchange-Traded Products (ETPs) is expanding rapidly, with 155 active filings covering 35 different digital assets, and projections suggesting this number could exceed 200 within the next year. Traditional finance is clearly moving deeper into the crypto market, with institutional interest now spreading far beyond just Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Solana and XRP Lead the Next Wave

Solana (SOL) has emerged as the biggest challenger, gaining institutional momentum to reach 23 filings, which now matches Bitcoin’s total. This growth is driven by its speed, active developer base, and consistent institutional inflows. Major firms like Grayscale, Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, and VanEck have filed for Solana-linked ETPs, signaling that the network is viewed as a crucial part of the future blockchain infrastructure.

XRP has also surged in institutional interest, boasting 20 filings and now outpacing Ethereum. This uptick follows Ripple’s positive legal outcome against the SEC, reducing regulatory uncertainty and bolstering belief in XRP’s potential for cross-border payments.

Bitcoin and Ethereum Maintain Core Roles

Bitcoin (BTC) remains the foundation of the ETP market, also holding 23 filings from heavyweights like BlackRock, Fidelity, and Ark & 21Shares. While the initial wave of spot ETF approvals brought in billions, analysts suggest much of its short-term upside may be priced in, with the focus now shifting to its performance in a tightening global liquidity environment.

Ethereum (ETH), the backbone of decentralized finance, maintains its core position with 10 filings. While still widely held by institutions, its share of new filings has slightly decreased as issuers look towards faster, lower-cost alternatives like Solana.

Other Assets Joining the Fray

Beyond the top four, other digital assets are attracting issuer attention, including:

  • Avalanche (AVAX): 4 filings
  • Cardano (ADA): 3 filings
  • Sui (SUI): 3 filings
  • Dogecoin (DOGE): 4 filings, driven by strong retail interest
  • Basket ETPs: 10 filings, offering diversified crypto exposure.

The expanding list of filings across various assets shows a definitive move by traditional finance to commoditize the crypto market, offering investors regulated and easily accessible ways to bet on the entire digital asset ecosystem.
