Ripple vs. SEC: The Case Isn’t Over Yet

The legal battle between Ripple and the SEC is on hold, but rumors of an imminent resolution are heating up. Although some speculate that the SEC might dismiss the case today following a closed-door meeting, experts are advising caution.

The case is currently paused by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals as the SEC considers its next move. The key date to watch is August 15, 2025, when the SEC is required to file a status update. By then, the agency must decide whether to continue its appeal or drop it.

Former SEC attorney Marc Fagel clarifies that a dismissal won’t happen suddenly. It would require a formal vote by the SEC’s commissioners. If the case is dismissed, a financial penalty Ripple agreed to will be paid to the U.S. Treasury. So, despite the rumors, it’s a waiting game until the August 15 deadline.
