Furthermore, Buterin emphasized that the Ethereum Foundation will:
- Refrain from political lobbying: The Foundation will not engage in political lobbying activities.
- Avoid ideological shifts: The Foundation will maintain its focus on technical development and avoid pursuing ideological agendas.
- Decentralize development efforts: The Foundation will not assume a more central role in the development of the Ethereum ecosystem.

This leadership change follows a turbulent year for the Ethereum Foundation in 2024. Several controversies arose, including:
- Conflict of Interest Concerns: The Foundation faced criticism over conflicts of interest involving researchers who accepted paid advisory roles at the EigenLayer Foundation.
- Dencun Upgrade and Layer-2 Proliferation: The Dencun upgrade, which significantly reduced layer-2 fees, led to a surge in Ethereum layer-2 networks. This rapid growth raised concerns about the impact on Ethereum’s base layer revenue.
