On August 28, 2024, the highly anticipated international Web3 conference, "WebX," commenced in Japan. Organized by CoinPost Co., Ltd. and hosted by the WebX Executive Committee, the event is a pivotal gathering for major stakeholders in the Web3 space, featuring discussions on the future trajectory of blockchain technology and its impact on various sectors.

In a notable opening, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida delivered a video message, aligning his administration's "New Capitalism" policy with the burgeoning Web3 sector. Kishida emphasized that Web3 and blockchain technology are integral to addressing and solving social issues, positioning these innovations as critical drivers of economic growth.

In his address, Prime Minister Kishida underscored the active engagement of the private sector in transforming business models, citing significant changes within large corporations over the past year. In response, he highlighted the Japanese government’s proactive stance, including tax reforms and legal adjustments aimed at supporting Web3 startups and facilitating their fundraising efforts.

Kishida also outlined future policy directions in alignment with the Basic Policy for Economic and Fiscal Management and Reform 2024. The government is committed to creating a supportive environment for Web3-related tokens, streamlining payment systems, and energizing the content industry—all while ensuring robust user protection.

Expressing optimism for the event, Kishida hoped that "WebX will inspire a wave of innovations that contribute to solving pressing social issues."

The significance of this event is underscored by the Web3 Project Team, previously known as the NFT Policy Consideration Project Team, which was established by the Liberal Democratic Party’s Digital Society Promotion Headquarters in January 2022. This team views Web 3.0 as a transformative frontier in the digital economy and advocates for integrating NFTs into Japan’s national strategy.

In alignment with these recommendations, the Japanese government approved a growth strategy in June 2022 aimed at fostering a Web 3.0 environment, further demonstrating the country’s commitment to advancing digital and blockchain technologies.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who has held various key positions including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defense, and Chairman of the Policy Research Council, became Japan’s 101st Prime Minister in 2021. His leadership continues to steer Japan towards embracing technological advancements and innovation as central to economic development.

As WebX progresses, the convergence of government policy and private sector innovation holds the potential to significantly shape the future of Web3 and its applications in addressing global challenges.
