Luke Barwikowski highlighted that while Web3 gaming has made significant strides, the sector is still more immature than many may perceive. He noted, “Web3 gaming is a lot more immature than people realize. Still, there’s a lot to figure out, and there’s still a long way to go.”

Key issues like real-user identification, bot prevention, and maintaining user quality are critical challenges that need addressing for the sustainable growth of blockchain gaming. Barwikowski emphasized, “You actually can’t be a Web3 game without tackling this problem, and this is the basically core problem set that Pixels is challenging and trying to build out solutions for right now.”

In response to these challenges, Pixels has implemented systems designed to enhance user reputation by assigning scores based on in-game actions. By leveraging on-chain data, the company aims to identify and mitigate bot behaviors effectively.

Fast-Paced Opportunities in Web3

Despite the obstacles, Ilman Shazhaev expressed optimism about the opportunities that Web3 presents for gaming projects. He explained that the traditional gaming landscape is notoriously tough to navigate—building a team, securing funding, and successfully marketing products are significant hurdles. “In one thousand companies, maybe up to ten can have success,” Shazhaev remarked, noting the fierce competition and established market dynamics.

However, he believes that Web3 technologies streamline many of these processes. Shazhaev stated, “Projects can do it very fast.” He shared that for Farcana, a Web3 shooter game, the team achieved in two years what would typically take four or five years to develop in a traditional setting. He described this rapid development as a “fast-paced” approach that enhances efficiency compared to conventional methods.
