The quantity of tokens being transferred to the burn address has significantly increased, according Shibburn data.
Recently, there have been notable swings in the burn rate of the cryptocurrency Shiba Inu (SHIB), which are closely correlated with shifts in its market value.
The rate at which tokens were burned has clearly slowed down over the past week, and this has coincided with a decline in the market value of the coin.
During this time, there was a significant drop in the quantity of SHIB tokens set aside for destruction, which resulted in a reduced burn rate overall.
By this past week's end, though, things had drastically turned around. The lead developer's activities caused a significant increase in the burn rate of Shiba Inu tokens.
The quantity of tokens being transferred to the burn address has significantly increased, according Shibburn data.
An astounding 87.76 million SHIB tokens were burned in just one day, increasing the burn rate by 48,554.74% over the prior data.
Just two wallets were used for the transactions that contributed to this astounding rise in burn activity.
On Wednesday, 61.9 million tokens were burned by the wallet known as "0xb8001c3."
Closely behind, the "0xa9d1e0" wallet added 25.85 million more SHIB coins to the burn.
Compared to the previous day's activity, when just 180,375 tokens were burned, there has been a sudden rise in burning activity, resulting in a drastic 99.59% fall in the burn rate.
Rather than being the result of the Shiba Inu team's intentional efforts or changes in community mood, this latest spike appears to be the result of organic circumstances.
