Robinhood, the stock trading app, has introduced its cryptocurrency trading application programming interface (API) for users in the United States. This move, announced on May 30, aims to attract experienced crypto traders by offering an API for automated trading strategies. Through this crypto trading API, US-based traders can set up automated strategies to respond to market movements and stay ahead of trends.

Users have the option to trade cryptocurrencies using the API without needing to access the Robinhood app directly. Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood Crypto's vice president and general manager, explained that the API empowers customers to take full control of their trading strategies and automate their trades. According to Kerbrat, developers can leverage the API to create tailored products and personalized tools for crypto trading.

Furthermore, Kerbrat highlighted that the API enables users to execute trades based on predefined parameters, removing the necessity for manual intervention. This automation, as Kerbrat stated, enhances trading speed, precision, and efficiency, allowing for the implementation of complex trading strategies that may be impractical to execute manually.

Robinhood targets advanced crypto traders

Although the tool looks to be incredibly beneficial, it may not be ideal for everyone. According to Robinhood, the crypto trading API is developed for seasoned crypto traders.

Kerbrat noted that this type of consumers value high-level services that help them use their technical skills to implement sophisticated schemes.

He highlighted that the API enables these traders analytics, real-time data processing and increased security. “We’ve created a dedicated website with API documentation and examples of how customers can use our API,” he added.

The executive emphasized that as their firm continued to gain market share, they made the decision to provide their customers with access to advanced trading tools to better navigate the crypto market.

When questioned about the advantages of using their API, Kerbrat asserted that they offer the "lowest cost to trade crypto on average." He explained that customers can make the most of their offerings without incurring additional costs due to commission-free trading and the availability of the crypto API.

In addition to the crypto API, Robinhood also unveiled a staking service for Solana (SOL) holders in Europe. This announcement was made on May 15, marking the company's debut in the crypto-staking realm. Users can stake their SOL tokens through the service and earn a 5% yield directly within the Robinhood app.
