Parallel Studios, the creators behind the Ethereum-based NFT card game Parallel, have announced an exciting new project: a 3D first-person shooter game codenamed "Project Tau Ceti." The announcement was made during Token2049 in Singapore, where the studio shared their vision for a sci-fi battle experience featuring their unique NFT avatars.
Set on a vibrant sci-fi planet, Project Tau Ceti aims to immerse players in intense combat scenarios while utilizing characters and assets from the Parallel universe. The game marks a return to the Ethereum layer-2 network Base, specifically leveraging the newly launched B3 layer-3 gaming network. A Parallel Studios spokesperson expressed confidence in B3’s capabilities, stating, “B3 has the right mixture of technology and team experience to support what we're looking for. B3 is putting the focus on games, and as the hottest new network on Base, this felt like the right choice for us.”
The B3 network was launched in August following a significant $21 million investment round for NFC Labs, the development team behind it. B3 aims to create an engaging web-based crypto arcade platform, starting with its flagship project, BSMNT.
Project Tau Ceti represents a bold expansion of the Parallel brand, which has already gained recognition for its innovative take on competitive card games, akin to Hearthstone. While the game remains free to play, it features collectible NFT cards that enhance gameplay and offer players the chance to earn crypto rewards.
The inspiration for Project Tau Ceti stemmed from a brainstorming session among the art team, who envisioned a shooter set in the Parallel universe. What began as a side project quickly evolved into a fully-fledged game, driven by community feedback and excitement.
“Our art team got together to imagine what a shooter game set in the Parallel universe could look like,” the team revealed in a pre-alpha trailer. “Fueled by our community's incredible response, we embarked on a journey to create expansive new environments, detailed characters, challenging enemies, and unique creatures.”
Utilizing Parallel’s rich library of 3D assets, Project Tau Ceti is being developed in collaboration with an unnamed third-party studio, leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5. This partnership is expected to enhance the game’s visual quality and overall gaming experience.
While the development of Tau Ceti progresses, Parallel Studios remains committed to delivering updates to its card game and preparing for the upcoming Alpha release of Colony, another project set on the Solana blockchain.
The team has announced plans for Project Tau Ceti to enter early alpha testing on PC in 2025, with potential mobile and console versions to follow. As fans await the next evolution in the Parallel universe, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be a thrilling addition to the gaming landscape.
