The Nillion network has successfully raised $25 million in a funding round aimed at bolstering its innovative decentralized privacy platform, which features an optional blockchain component. This marks the network’s second fundraising round this year, following an earlier round in February, and brings Nillion’s total fundraising to over $50 million.

The October 30 funding round was led by Hack VC, with participation from notable venture capitalists including Distributed Global and Hashkey. The round also saw support from influential industry figures such as Ansem, Arthur Hayes, and Meltem Demirors, along with leaders from projects like Worldcoin, Injective, and Sei.

Introducing the World’s First Offchain Blind Computer

Nillion claims to have developed the world’s first Blind Computer, a unique solution designed to enhance data privacy and security. The network hosts a vibrant ecosystem of over 40 builders, including developers from Near, Aptos, Arbitrum, Mantle, IO.net, and Ritual. This diverse group is focused on creating applications across various sectors, including AI agents, data marketplaces, private DeFi, and healthcare analytics.

Nillion’s clients are seeking secure data storage and computation methods, which encompass solutions like quantum secure messaging and encrypted trading platforms. As articulated in a statement shared with Cointelegraph, Nillion was established three years ago with a mission to secure high-value data through decentralization and privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), such as secure multi-party computation (MPC) and homomorphic encryption.

Privacy Without Blockchain

In a video released on Near Protocol’s YouTube channel on October 10, co-founder Lukas Bruell emphasized the significance of Nillion’s private cloud environment. He noted that traditional computations often expose data, whereas Nillion allows a decentralized network of nodes to process encrypted information without revealing the underlying data.

Furthermore, Nillion’s CEO Alex Page previously stated that its Nil Message Compute technology is designed to function independently of a blockchain. The platform also offers the Nada AI developer toolkit, which further enhances its utility.

Nillion has made significant strides in the Web3 space, having graduated with 12 other companies from the Beacon accelerator’s inaugural “Cohort 0” in January 2023. In August 2024, the network also integrated with the Aptos blockchain, broadening its reach and capabilities.

As the demand for secure, decentralized data solutions continues to rise, Nillion is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in the evolving landscape of privacy-focused technologies.
