The criminal trial involving two of Binance's principal workers and the cryptocurrency exchange will not begin until May 17. This deferral was ordered by the Nigerian court as Binance had not received official charges. However, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) accused the defendant of engaging in tax evasion, and this led to the trial. According to local media, the FIRS has not yet formally served Binance with the allegations.

The co-founder of Binance, Tigran Gambaryan, was able to appear in court and represent the company, according to the FIRS official. Conversely, defense attorney Chukwuka Ikuazom claimed that the primary defendant, Binance, had to be served first before any pleas could be made in line with Nigerian law.

The side makes the legal argument

Furthermore, Binance is facing multiple charges from Nigerian authorities for different infractions. The main accusations center on his noncompliance with the FIRS regarding tax payments. It was suggested that the country's income from small companies may have suffered as a result of some of these units' inability to register. The head of financial crime compliance and American citizen Tigran Gambaryan engaged in a mini-mini discussion on the complaint filed.

The government crackdown on cryptocurrency activity in Nigeria as a whole is the reason behind the trial's postponement. This is being enforced by federal officials, who have forced Binance to give Nigerian traders access to transaction details. The goal is to put an end to currency speculation-related operations, for which there hasn't been much transparency in the area.

Additional consequences for Binance

In addition to the tax evasion case against Binance and its directors, the EFCC alleges that over $35 million in money was laundered by the business and its representatives. The second phase of the study will take place independently starting on May 2. Additionally, the next bail hearing for Gambaryan, the executive of Binance, has been rescheduled for a later time. He is still detained in the Abuja detention prison Kuje.

Gambaryan filed a civil case in addition to his lawsuit against the Nigerian government. He clarifies that it is illegal for his passport to be seized and for him to be detained illegally. His writ states that the aforementioned acts violate his constitutionally guaranteed right to personal liberty under the Nigerian constitution.

The leadership of Binance announced their intentions to work with the Nigerian governments at the same time. This statement, which he made at the Token2049 cryptocurrency conference in Dubai, demonstrated that this organization is constantly coming up with new ways to deal with the legal problems the nation has. In addition, the business did not show up for the most recent court date and has not indicated who will take over the case following the adjournment.
