Plans to create non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the XRP Ledger for the next World Expo 2025 in Osaka have been revealed by Japan's SBI Group. Japan is home to the financial services giant SBI Group.
The goal of this project is to smoothly improve visitor experiences by integrating blockchain technology.
XRP NFTs Hopes to See 28 Million Views
SBI will produce and issue visitor NFTs with MYAKU-MYAKU, the official Expo mascot, via Ripple's XRP Ledger. Attendees who take part in Expo activities and use the Expo mobile app can get these digital souvenirs.
Emi Yoshikawa, the vice president of corporate strategy and operations at Ripple, called this project a "huge" development for Ripple and the blockchain community on X social media.
The World Expo 2025, set to take place on a man-made island in Osaka Bay from April to October, is anticipated to welcome 28 million guests from around the globe. World Expos have historically shed light on developments in science, technology, and the economy.
In keeping with this custom, the Expo will put a special emphasis on themes of empowerment, connection, and life preservation.
World Expos have a rich history in Japan, dating back to the 1970s and 1990s. This forthcoming Expo's innovative use of NFTs to purposefully increase visitor engagement makes the event more engaging and memorable.
"There will be a lot of eyes on XRPL NFTs with an estimated 28 million attendees, and its NFT functions can be used for real-world applications," XRPL validator Vet stated.
In addition, a significant increase in network activity has been observed on Ripple's XRP Ledger, primarily due to NFT transactions. NFT sales on Ripple's XRP Ledger have totaled $27.4 million since the NFTs were introduced.
The increasing utilisation of Ripple Ledger underscores its ability to manage significant amounts of transactions. Sales have, however, decreased, especially after the fourth quarter of 2023.
