An upcoming DAO proposal, currently under vote by token holders, is set to unlock over $250 million worth of Arbitrum tokens over the next three years, aiming to bolster the Ethereum layer-2 network's gaming ecosystem. Arbitrum, known for its faster and cheaper transactions compared to the Ethereum mainnet, has attracted several notable gaming projects such as Xai, Treasure's Infinity Chains, Proof of Play, AnimeChain, and the upcoming ApeChain for Bored Ape Yacht Club-themed projects.
The proposed Gaming Catalyst Program (GCP) plans to allocate 225 million ARB tokens over three years, with 200 million ARB dedicated to gaming projects and 25 million ARB for administration. These tokens will be strategically distributed across two main initiatives: builder onboarding and growth, and infrastructure bounties. The former aims to attract and support game developers through grants or direct investment, while the latter focuses on setting up the Arbitrum network to better serve the gaming community.
To ensure alignment with the proposal's goals and values, a council of five individuals with gaming expertise will oversee the program, supported by the Arbitrum Foundation. Despite currently positive voting trends, the proposal acknowledges that results may take time, with most funded games not expected to go live this year. The GCP is viewed as a catalyst for growth, with plans to evolve into a longer-term gaming program based on insights gained during its implementation.
